Nevis

Nestled in the heart of the Caribbean, Nevis is a small island with a big soul—known for its natural beauty, rich heritage, and warm, unhurried way of life. Often called “the Caribbean the way it used to be,” Nevis invites you to slow down, breathe deeply, and savor a sense of tranquility that feels rare in today’s busy world. Life here moves to the rhythm of the waves and the whisper of the trade winds, balancing pure relaxation with meaningful discovery.
Crowned by the iconic Nevis Peak, the island is a lush tapestry of tropical forest, quiet beaches, and gently rolling farmland. Hike rainforest trails that open onto sweeping views, soak in soothing natural hot springs, or wander through the elegant ruins and restored great houses of former sugar plantations—every experience reveals another layer of Nevis’s story. In Charlestown, the island’s capital, Georgian-era buildings, local shops, and friendly markets create an atmosphere of easygoing, old-world charm, while boutique hotels and historic inns offer intimate, character-filled places to stay.

Dining
The dining scene on Nevis is a delicious blend of relaxed Caribbean charm and polished island elegance. Along the beach, casual seaside shacks and bars tempt you with grilled lobster straight off the barbecue, crispy conch fritters, and smoky jerk chicken, often enjoyed with your toes in the sand. Just a short drive away, you’ll find refined restaurants tucked into beautifully restored inns, where candlelight, vintage stone walls, and lush gardens set the tone for a more elevated experience.
Nevisian chefs showcase the island’s natural bounty—sweet mangoes, limes, and papayas, just-caught fish and shellfish, and herbs and vegetables grown in rich volcanic soil—transforming them into dishes that balance tradition with modern creativity. Whether you’re sipping a rum punch as the sun sets over Pinney’s Beach or lingering over a multi-course dinner under a canopy of stars, every meal on Nevis feels warm, welcoming, and distinctly Caribbean.

Sustainability
Sustainability Commitment
Guided by the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDG), Nevis has embraced six overarching objectives will promote continued prosperity while protecting the planet. Here are the six projects currently underway:
Geothermal Energy Development: Nevis is aggressively pursuing geothermal energy to become a net energy exporter and achieve energy independence. The Nevis Island Administration (NIA) has continued efforts to advance drilling and construction of a geothermal plant, with plans to use the resource for 100% renewable electricity generation.
Special Sustainability Zones (SSZs): The government passed the Special Sustainability Zone Authorisation Bill in 2025, with plans to develop a SSZ in the southern part of Nevis. This zone, branded as “Destiny,” is designed to feature eco-friendly, low-rise architecture and high environmental standards.
Island-Wide Recycling Programme: A “Recycling Expansion Roll-Out Programme” is expanding to all five parishes on Nevis as of May 2026, targeting the collection and export of plastic bottles for repurposing.
Ban on Single-Use Plastics: The Federation implemented a ban on single-use plastics, including Styrofoam containers, plastic straws, cups, and plates, with further bans on plastic bags scheduled through early 2025.
Sustainable Agriculture & Food Security: Farmers in Nevis are adopting climate-smart techniques, including drip irrigation systems to minimize water waste and sustainable land management to combat erosion. The “Around the Garden” tour at Cades Bay showcases local organic produce to encourage local consumption.
Marine & Environmental Conservation: Partnerships with the Sea Turtle Conservancy and the Nevis Turtle Group have continued for over a decade, focusing on tagging and protecting endangered sea turtles.
Recent Highlights (2025-2026)
Sustainability Reporting: Hotels like TUI BLUE Nevis are releasing reports showcasing water consumption decreases and increased recycling efforts.
Youth Engagement: The St. Kitts and Nevis Solid Waste Management team has been training “Youth Recycling Ambassadors” to teach the community about waste management. These efforts are supported by the “Sustainable Island State Agenda” (SISA), which aims to make the federation a leader in Caribbean sustainability.
