Update on Hurricane Melissa…
10/29 – 9:00am – Details are emerging on the damage to the infrastructure of Jamaica’s roads and airports, and hospitals. The needs will be great. Unfortunately, the Montego Bay Airport has sustained significant damage and will remain closed today. Caribbean Airlines has cancelled their flights through Thursday, October 30th pending additional assessments into both Montego Bay’s and Kingston’s airports.
10/28 – 8:30pm – Hurricane Melissa passed over Jamaica today and has left signification damage to infrastructure, power and communications. Now downgraded to a Cat.3, Melissa continues on a track to Eastern Cuba with heavy rainfall and flash flooding predicted for the overnight hours. By tomorrow midday, Melissa will cross into southeastern and central Bahamas and the Turks and Caicos Islands. The airports in Santiago de Cuba and Holguin were closed earlier today. Check with your airlines with regards to the Turks & Caicos – it appears many are sending larger aircraft to repatriate guests wishing to leave early.
