Not every Caribbean getaway needs to take up an entire week.

For many travelers, the challenge isn’t necessarily deciding where to go; it’s finding a few days to get away in the first place. Between work schedules, busy school calendars, and everyday obligations, a four- or five-night escape is often the most realistic option.

Fortunately, some destinations naturally lend themselves particularly well to shorter stays. The flight is manageable, the pace is easy to settle into, and there is enough to see and do without feeling pressured to cram everything into a packed itinerary. Aruba, Saint Martin / St. Maarten, and Martinique all fit that description effortlessly. Each island offers a different experience, but all three have a way of making a long weekend getaway feel a little longer than it actually is.

Aruba

Aruba has a way of easing people into vacation mode almost immediately. Maybe it’s the consistently sunny weather. Or perhaps the fact that many of the island’s beaches, restaurants, and hotels are all located within a relatively small area. Whatever the reason, Aruba tends to work particularly well for travelers who might not have a lot of time to spare.

Luckily, a four- or five-night trip in this corner of the Caribbean doesn’t require much intensive planning. One day here might be spent on Eagle Beach, another exploring the region’s rugged coastline and the desert landscapes of Arikok National Park. A sunset catamaran cruise fits naturally into any schedule, as does an afternoon spent snorkeling or simply finding a special spot by the water to unwind.

The message here? Aruba doesn’t ask much of its visitors. A day spent here revolves around golden beaches, long lunches by the water, and whatever feels right afterwards. Some fill their afternoons with sailing and off-road adventures. Others barely leave their lounge chair. Both approaches work equally well.

Properties like the Aruba Marriott Resort & Stellaris Casino place visitors within easy reach of Palm Beach, waterfront restaurants, and many of the island’s most popular excursions, making it easy to maximize a short stay without spending valuable vacation time stuck in the details or in transit.

For travelers looking to trade a few days of hustle and bustle for sunshine and warm water, Aruba remains one of the easiest places in the Caribbean to do exactly that.

Saint Martin / St. Maarten

One of the advantages of a short trip to Saint Martin / St. Maarten is how much variety is packed into this relatively small island. Within the span of a single day, it’s possible to spend the morning on a quiet beach, have lunch in a waterfront French village, and finish the evening listening to live music on the Dutch side. The distances are short, but the atmosphere shifts noticeably from one area to another.

For many visitors, Grand Case quickly becomes a favorite. The beach is beautiful, but it’s the restaurants, cafés, and relaxed pace here that often keep people lingering longer than planned. Only a few kilometers away, Orient Bay offers a completely different scene, with beach clubs, water sports, and a livelier energy. Of course, no first visit feels complete without stopping at Maho Beach to watch aircraft make their famous approach over the shoreline. It is one of those places that feels slightly surreal in person, even if you’ve already seen countless photos online.

A four- or five-night stay leaves plenty of room for a boat excursion, a beach day or two, and a leisurely exploration of both the French and Dutch sides of the island. There is no real pressure to choose between them. Properties like La Samanna, A Belmond Hotel, provide a convenient base for exploring the two, while smaller boutique hotels around the Grand Case area may offer a more intimate alternative for travelers who prefer to stay closer to the village atmosphere. If you like a little variety built into your vacation, both Saint Martin and St. Maarten have a way of making a short trip feel surprisingly full.

Martinique

Martinique is the kind of place where a simple beach day rarely stays just a beach day. An afternoon at Les Salines can easily turn into a leisurely lunch, a stop at a local market, or a detour to a historical property or rum distillery on the drive back. This island rewards curiosity, even when there isn’t much time to spare.

For travelers working with four or five nights, that works in their favor. One day can be spent exploring Fort-de-France, wandering through the city’s streets before settling into a café for lunch. Another could include a visit to Habitation Clément, where rhum agricole tastings and historic buildings provide a glimpse into one of the island’s most important industries. Time spent around Trois-Îlets often unfolds naturally as well, with endless waterfront restaurants, clean, uncrowded beaches, and charming boutique shops all within easy reach.

The French influence is evident throughout the island, particularly when it comes to the food. Even casual meals tend to stretch longer than expected – not because service is slow, but because there rarely seems to be a reason to be in a rush here.

For accommodation, properties like La Suite Villa offer an easy balance of privacy, design, and access to some of the island’s most popular areas. Travelers looking for something quieter might gravitate toward Domaine de la Palmeraie or Ecolodge de Puyferrat, where the focus shifts toward nature, space, and a slower rhythm. Martinique feels different from many Caribbean destinations. The beaches are certainly part of the draw, but they are rarely the entire story.

A Few Days Can Go a Long Way

A shorter trip doesn’t have to feel rushed. The right destination can turn four or five nights into a genuine reset, particularly when the experience begins the moment you arrive. Although four or five nights isn’t a long time, the right destination can make it feel surprisingly substantial. A few days of warm weather, good food, and a change of scenery often go further than people expect, and sometimes that’s all a vacation needs to be.
